Meet Farmer Steve and the animals of Church Farm

Farmer Steve has finally agreed to let our guests meet the animals of Church Farm. Everyday he feeds our 200 breeding ewes in the barn with hay and sheep nuts. He also keeps training Fraser and Spruce the resident llamas by feeding them by hand. We have Corky the horse, Jim and Bryan the pet sheep who are also available to meet. The kids are welcome to help collect the eggs from the hens too, just in time for breakfast!

Please note: For all visitors to the farm all footwear should be dipped in our disinfectant (provided) and you should wash your hands thoroughly after your visit to the farm. Please wear suitable clothing and don't forget your cameras!

Steve is now a llama farmer!

December 26th 2009

For Christmas this year, Steve was blindfolded and taken round to meet his future friends, Fraser and Spruce. After getting over the shock, he has since learnt to embrace the two boys as part of the family.

The picture below was captured when Steve was in the barn feeding the sheep, to which the llamas have recently been introduced to. They are becoming most inquisitive and quite friendly, as you can see! A minor issue that Steve is currently suffering, is that the boys think his fingers are carrots! Fraser and Spruce have been brought in order to protect the flocks of sheep. They are very effective at keeping predators away. They will soon be released into the Winsley fields with the sheep. So, if you're out walking, do keep an eye out for them... but don't let your dog chase the sheep - or Fraser or Spruce may take action!
